Ponentes invitados:

Chaz Pugliese
Chaz Pugliese is an author, trainer and presenter working out of Paris. He’s published ‘Being Creative’ (Delta, 2010) and more recently ‘The Principled Communicative Approach’ (Helbling, 2015). He’s currently working on a third title, Creating Motivation, due out in April 2017 (with Helbling).
In 2013 Chaz founded, with Alan Maley the Creativity Group.
A keen musician, Chaz likes any music that’s honest, genuine and raw.

PLENARY 1

Creativity in the Classroom: the What, the Why and the How.
Chaz Pugliese, Freelance/The Creativity Group.


In this talk I would like to argue that Creativity, far from being a trivial add-on, should be considered an absolute must in education. I will be referring to the teacher’s Creativity, rather than the learner’s, even though there might be a correlation between these two. Creativity, is a cluster of skills that we use to fashion ideas or manufacture products that are both novel and valuable. Thus, a teaching idea, a task, an activity, must be new and useful, in order to be called ‘creative’. This talk will briefly outline why Creativity is needed in the teaching profession. It will then focus on the strategies any teacher can utilize to develop their creative potential. Finally it will provide the participants with a few practical examples of how to implement these strategies in the classroom.

PLENARY 2
You need a GPS to motivate your students!
In this session, I will suggest that students can be motivated if the teacher pays sufficient attention to the group processes, promoting acceptance,  creating a feeling of palpable belonging, an environment that is psychologically safe.
Once the group has bonded, the students need to be primed for learning: that is to say; they should be prepared for language work. Finally, the teacher should look for ways to stimulate the students and challenge them to go beyond the language. The session will offer food for reflection blended with some practice: participants will be invited to experience a bagful of exercises they can then use with their own groups.

Robert Walker
Robin Walker is a freelance language teacher, teacher educator, and materials writer. He has been involved in ELT since moving to Spain in 1981. In this time, he worked for over 20 years in ESP as a lecturer in English at the University School of Tourism of Asturias. He has also collaborated extensively with many of Spain’s state teacher training centres, with the University of Oviedo, and with Oxford University Press España. Robin is co-author of Tourism 1 (Provision), Tourism 2 (Encounters) and Tourism3 (Management) in OUP’s Oxford English for Careers series. In 2010 he published Teaching the Pronunciation of English as a Lingua franca for the OUP teacher’s handbook series. A former Vice-president of TESOL-SPAIN, he is the Newsletter editor of the IATEFL Pronunciation Special Interest Group. 



Paul Seligson
Paul Seligson has been teaching EFL since 1978. He started with International House in Algeria and France, and then moved to the British Council for whom he worked in Egypt, Venezuela, and Spain, where for five years he was the Assistant Director of Studies in Valencia. After a year writing in the USA he moved back to the UK and worked in various ESOL colleges, mainly teaching immigrants and refugees. He now works freelance, dividing his time between writing, training, and travelling.



Advantaging Spanish Learners

How does your teaching really acknowledge, embrace and celebrate the fact that your students speak Spanish, and turn this to their - and your - advantage? Like it or not, all foreign learners translate virtually every new or unfamiliar item, no matter how much we insist they Think in English! Rather than see Spanish as ‘the last resort’ we need to 'aprovechar' and work efficiently with mental translation.
A lively, common sense session demonstrating a wide range of principled, practical ideas to accelerate learning for all Romance language-speaking classes. Throughout, I will suggest lots of ways to incorporate Spanish without ever forcing its active use at all. Eye-opening, controversial, yet blindingly obvious, and lots of fun too.


Karsten Wiemann

Natural de Essen (Alemania) Karsten Wiemann es en la actualidad consultor y director del Servicio Pedagógico del Goethe-Institut Madrid. En el pasado trabajó muchos años de consultor en el Servicio Pedagógico del Goethe-Institut Oslo y de director adjunto y director en funciones en un instituto de bachillerato en Düsseldorf. Es profesor de lenguas modernas y ciencias sociales. Estudió filología románica, filología inglesa, ciencias sociales y alemán como lengua extranjera en la Ruhr-Universität Bochum y la Universidad Complutense Madrid. Trabajó de auxiliar de conversación en la Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de San Fernando de Henares. Es autor de numerosas publicaciones y materiales didácticos ante todo sobre la enseñanza de lenguas modernas.

Neue Ideen für Schüleraktivierung und Interaktion im Deutschunterricht an der EOI (Schwerpunkt Sprechen)

Im Workshop werden schüleraktivierende Methoden, Übungen und Spiele vorgestellt, wobei die Förderung des Sprechens den Schwerpunkt bildet.
Marita Gareis
Marita Gareis ist Universitätslektorin und seit 2003 an der Fortbildungsabteilung für die Internationalisierung der schwedischen Schule der Uppsala Universität tätig. Ihr Hauptbetätigungsfeld ist die sprachdidaktische Aus- und Fortbildung von schwedischen und europäischen Deutschlehrkräften.

"Die Sprache der Kunst - die Kunst der Sprache"

Sich mit dem Thema Kunst im Sprachenunterricht zu beschäftigen, eröffnet viele Möglichkeiten, um die kommunikative sowie die kulturelle Kompetenz der Deutschlernende zu entwickeln. Kunst und Sprache stehen in einer engen wechselseitigen Beziehung zueinander. Kunst umgibt uns im Alltag und mittels der Sprache kann Kunst interpretiert und verstanden werden und mittels der Sprache kann Kunst in vielen Ausdrucksformen entstehen.

Ziel des Workshops ist es, an konkreten Bespielen aufzeigen, wie mit diesem Thema im Deutschunterricht gearbeitet werden kann.

Le document authentique a de nombreux atouts pédagogiques dans l’enseignement/apprentissage du français langue étrangère. Non seulement il permet à l’apprenant d’être au contact de la langue française telle qu’elle est utilisée par les locuteurs natifs mais il permet aussi aux enseignants d’immerger leurs apprenants dans les environnements des francophones, de découvrir leurs préoccupations, leurs habitudes, leurs modes de vie, leurs cultures… Il ancre l’apprentissage dans la réalité française et francophone contemporaine.

Qu’est-ce qu’un document authentique ? Pourquoi et comment intégrer le document authentique dans sa classe, dès les niveaux débutants ? Comment identifier le matériau pédagogique dans un document et l’exploiter ? Quelles sont les propositions de la collection Edito (éditions Didier) pour enrichir votre cours d’apports culturels et civilisationnels à travers le document authentique ? Telles sont les questions auxquelles nous apporterons des éléments de réponse.



Elena MerinoElena Merino is a Teacher Trainer for Pearson and teacher at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. PhD in Communication and Multilingual Education, she loves learning new things and collaborating with people from different contexts and cultures. In class, she’s concerned about meaningful real-world tasks that get students to use the language in context.
